Marine bottle<\/h2>\n\n

Coca-Cola presents a beverage bottle that contains plastic waste from beaches and the sea. This bottle is only a sample for now – currently no retail sale is planned. But this is the first time marine plastic has been successfully recycled into a food-grade bottle. The proportion of this material in the finished bottle is 25 percent. The sample bottles were developed to highlight the potential of improved recycling technologies. Innovative processes make it possible to turn used plastic of any quality back into high-quality plastic. The depolymerization process is used, whereby the PET (polymer) is broken down into its original building blocks (monomers). These monomers are easier to clean. They can then be repolymerized – into PET material of virtually pure quality. In total, Coca-Cola has produced nearly 300 of these sample bottles in a partnership between Ioniqa Technologies, Indorama Ventures and Mares Circulares. A small step with a big impact. Enhanced recycling can be used to return previously non-recyclable plastic waste, including materials that were destined for incineration or landfill, to packaging for beverages and food (so-called food-grade PET).<\/p>\n\n
