Pi\u00f1atex\u00ae<\/h2>\n\n

Pi\u00f1atex\u00ae was developed by the British company Ananas Anam, a manufacturer of natural textiles from the by-products of the pineapple harvest. With her development, Dr. Carmen Hijosa not only wanted to give an unappreciated waste a use, but also to generate maximum benefit with the smallest possible ecological footprint. The cradle-to-cradle aspect was a particular focus. The leather is produced by processing the pineapple leaves, which amount to 13 million tons annually and are uninteresting for the farmers. The fibers contained are released from the leaves, washed and dried in sunlight. This removes any impurities. The fluffy material is then mixed with polylactide, which is found in corn. A flowing fabric is created and the basis for the Pi\u00f1atex\u00ae collection is created. After shipping to the Italian and Spanish production facilities, the dyeing is done by GOTS certified pigments. The subsequent coating additionally provides water resistance and strengthening of the “leather”. For a special look, a foil on top is used in the last step. For one square meter of the finished pineapple leather will need 16 plants (or 480 of their leaves). Pineapple Anam is already in the range of major textile brands such as Hugo Boss. <\/p>\n\n
