As a Frankfurt-based packaging design agency<\/a>, it made sense to look around the Rheingau region when choosing our line. In the end, it was the mixture of a fantastic site with first-class Riesling and the good chemistry between us and Uli Allendorf that tipped the scales. <\/p>\n\n The Jesuitengarten, located directly on the Winkel bank of the Rhine, is completely exposed to the south\/southwest and is slightly sloping, creating a microclimate characterized by extremes: early budding, early flowering and high maturity. The dry Rieslings from the Jesuitengarten<\/a> always show fine aromas despite their maturity. The origin of the name dates back to 1606, when the Archbishop of Mainz gave the chapel of St. Bartholomew and its vineyards to the Jesuit College in Mainz, which owned the vineyards until 1773. The predominant floodplain soils of the former Rhine bank, consisting of sandy loam with gravel and sand deposits, warm up particularly easily. <\/p>\n\n The site is the focus of the work: to preserve its character and to produce typical, elegant and ripe Rheingau wines, that is the maxim of the family.<\/p>\n\n VDP.GROSSE LAGE<\/a> distinguishes the highest quality German vineyards. The sites are delineated by parcel. Here ripen the best wines with expressive site character and special ripening potential. They are planted with grape varieties that are closely defined regionally and are appropriate to each vineyard. Wines from these sites are given a particularly long time to mature and are not marketed until September 1 of the year following the harvest, red wines another year later. Dry wines from VDP.GROSSER LAGE are called: VDP.GROSSES GEW\u00c4CHS\u00ae<\/a>. The fruit-sweet wines are designated with the predicates Kabinett, Sp\u00e4tlese, Auslese as well as Beerenauslese, Trockenbeerenauslese and Eiswein. <\/p>\n\n As a VDP member, Allendorf<\/a> implements the VDP.KLASSIFIKATION<\/a>. This private law statute defines the quality of a wine according to the “terroir”- the origin combined with the quality. <\/p>\n\n We look forward to the next harvest as lodge winemakers and hopefully many good vintages!<\/p>\n
