A Reusable Plant Based Water Bottle
Eliminating Single Use Plastic Bottles With Sugar Cane
UK based company Bottle Up produces water bottles consisting mainly of Brasilian raw sugar cane, that are naturally watered by rainfall. Sugar cane was chosen as a material for its low to no requirement of fertilizer or additional irrigation. Bottle Up aims to replace single use plastic bottles with their reusable alternative made from 96% plant-based HDPE. As an alternative to fossil-based plastic, their bottles are durable, BPA free, and dishwasher safe. Both the lid and bottle are made of sugar cane, making it mono-material and easier to enter UK plastic recycling streams. However, the company does claim the bottles can be infinitely reused when properly handled.
The bottles come in various designs of colour and embossment. At first purchase they are bottled with local fresh natural sourced water. The reusable bottles are available at numerous retail stores such as Whole Foods and Amazon.
