Biodegradable plastic
Edible Seaweed Packaging
Indonesian researchers Dr. Noryawati Mulyno and David Christian developed Edible Seaweed Packaging, which consists of seaweed. In its homeland, 90% of plastic waste is disposed of in the ocean and at the same time it has a large supply of algae. They founded the company Evoware to produce a plastic-free alternative from marine plants. The biodegradable material contains many minerals and vitamins and also has a shelf life of up to 2 years. Due to its food-safe properties, Edible Seaweed Packaging can be used as packaging for spices, sugar, coffee, toothpicks, napkins or food. If the film comes into contact with water, it dissolves without leaving any residue. It can be individually printed and given a special flavor as desired.
