Aquaculture

What can responsible fish consumption look like to combat overfishing? Closed aquaculture, where animals such as brine shrimp, seafood and saltwater fish are kept and farmed in a species-appropriate manner without the use of antibiotics or chemicals, is one of the answers to the major problems facing the world’s oceans. The recirculating systems are designed to be as sustainable as possible, for example by recycling the water through purification and oxygenation to conserve resources. The tech company Crusta Nova from Langenpreising in Upper Bavaria became the leading land-based aquafarm in Germany with its system. The products are sold to private customers and specialist retailers in Germany and Austria – with a focus on regionality and short transport routes.
