Urban Gardening

Driven by a young generation of city dwellers who are increasingly seeking a balance to their stressful new-work day at the laptop, concepts ranging from open-source gardens to indoor vegetable gardening are growing in popularity. Food production is unceremoniously organized and celebrated on rooftops, brownfields, balconies and terraces, primarily to satisfy the increased need for naturalness, sustainability and regionality. The vegetable garden on the balcony is only a small step towards ecological autonomy, but it is a step with a very high potential for happiness. This is also closely related to the DIY trend, which turns consumers into prosumers who want to make things themselves again and then find and exchange ideas in like-minded collectives.
